Dear reader examples multi genre project

Dear Reader,

I have always been interested in the Vietnam War, mostly due to the fact of how I love the movie Forrest Gump and in the movie Tom Hanks plays a character that goes and fights in the Vietnam War. Furthermore, I feel as if it is not as talked about compared to WWI or WWII so it would be interesting to learn more about it. I have in fact previously done a world history project on the Vietnam War, but that was more about the war in general. This time around I am focusing on how children were affected by the Vietnam War because I have never heard many details relating to that topic.

During my research I used the majority of web resources. As I continued my research I learned many things I did not previously know. For example I had known that there was a lot of chemical warfare being experimented with, but I did not know how many different types there were. On top of that I was not aware of the effects napalm bombs had on people and that they can cause fifth degree burns! The tragedies I learned the children at this time had to go through were terrible. Most were refugees and lost their parents. Children as old as nine would be bombed in the middle of the day without warning and would suffer through unbearable pain.

Lastly, my research has opened my eyes to how children even today, being over 30 years later, are still being affected. Babies are still being born with birth defects due to Agent Orange being dropped on Vietnam (Spartacus Educational). I have learned how cruel people can be and how innocent ones caught in the cross fire can be harmed. I hope that history will not repeat itself and that others around the world are able to learn from the tragedies that have occurred; “learn from their mistakes” as it were.

Sincerely, Sabrina Molina
